My dvd player does not have to dvd player and comp cables then going to dvd player and comp cables then going to dvd player does not have to high defintion tv without the component cable output just the hdmi output can get true hd tv or will have comp cables going from satellite box.

No I don’t think you will get “true HD”. You will need to get an HD recorder and then hook that up.

some dvd players upconvert to near hd quality . first you must check if it is even a progressive scan player. If it isnt a progressive player it wont play on your tv regardless. But I assume all upconverting dvd players are hdmi equipped. With my pioneer tv and sa cable box i was able to get hd with component cables , .

First – Component video cables do carry HD however your DVD recorder probably won’t pass it on to the TV or even record the signal unless it is scaled down to 480i (standard definition. List the model to be sure.) If you are concerned about recording HD swap your Sat box for an HD DVR so you can record the programs in HD (Almost nobody watches the programs more than once anyway) and if you want to keep the program you can record it out to the DVD recorder at your leisure from the DVR in standard def.
In this case the component or better yet s-video cable output from the Sat box will go out to the DVD-R (component is better but will have to be switched to 480i when you want to record whereas the s-video will only output the 480i anyway.) and the HDMI will connect directly to the TV for the better picture when watching directly.
Have fun.
Oh yeah mmountainbiker the TV will accept any DVD players picture not just upscaled ones or as you say upconverted ones.

am not sure whats the question but for true hd 1080 or 720p you need 2 things a HD display and a HD source.
1. you wont be getting hd picture from a regular dvd.
2. I dont remember seeing any HD dvd recorder anywhere except for computers.
component cable support HD picture up to 1080p but not all tv sets support 1080p thru component. so you wont getting hd from your regular dvd player or recorder or your satellite box except if the satellite box is HD.
and if the dvd player or recorder is an upconverting dvd players whats that means is that you will be seeing a better resolution than regular dvd because the dvd will trying to upconvert the signal to match a high definition resolution but isnt true HD and normally this dvd require HDMI to upconvert.
