I was recently given a really old tv that won’t pick up more than two of our local cable stations. There aren’t any buttons to program more in and we no longer have a remote, is there any hope? If I buy a vcr to plug into it I’m sure I can make it work but that seems like a waste.

Try buying a universal remote and see if you can set it for that tv.

1989 is not too old
VCR should work.
