    Vizio TV

I just got a 32″ vizio and I want to get HD on it. I have normal cable so do i have to connect a cable from the wall to my tv and then get an hd cable and connect it somewhere. Can I connect the hd cable from my tv to my xbox360? and does the xbox have to be on to make the hd work?

you need a hd box or service from the cable company
and for your xbox you need the HD cables it comes with the xbox unless you have the arcade or if you have a newer xbox you can use the hdmi cable sold separately

Since you only have normal cable, you won’t get HD besides mainly local channels (ABC, Fox). You may have to disconnect the coax cable from your TV to get them. I only get the local HD channels by doing it that way.

You have to have HD service from your cable provider. But since you have a 720P, your TV is not capable of full HD. Only 1080s can do that. So, you can play your 360 in HD, but there is no way around not getting HD service if you want to watch HD television stations. It will still look better for you than regular tv, just not as good as 1080.

To get HD broadcast programming you need to be subscribed to an HD service. Your house needs to be fed an HD signal first. Then you can connect that to your TV directly (if it has a built in digital tuner) using an RF cable. If that’s not the case, then you need a cable or satellite set top box. It will allow you to send the HD signal to your TV using either component cables or an HDMI cable.

You can connect the Xbox 360 via the component cables (I think it comes with all models of the 360) or an HDMI cable (comes with some versions, otherwise you need to buy one). Warning though, last I heard the latest version of the Xbox 360 software was causing audio problems for HDMI out of the 360. So I might stick with the component cable for the time being.

HDMI looks like a fat, funny looking USB (best way I can describe it). Don’t overpay for this. Some places will try to push on you expensive cables, but the $10 ones will give you absolutely the same quality. You can get them cheap from monoprice or newegg. You do want to make sure to get one that is version 1.3 compatible though (that ensures it can carry both video and audio over the cable).

Component cables are the 3 primary colors (Red, Green, Blue). Your video is sent out to the TV with 3 color signals. This is really good quality and can handle both SD and HD signals. You will have to carry the audio using something else though (optical Toslink or just good old fashioned RCA audio-the red/white cables).
