You might want to make sure that your TV is HD and not just HD Ready.

I just looked up that model TV and I’m sorry to tell you that it is Standard Definition set, it is not capable of displaying an HD signal. Many late model standard definition sets have component inputs to carry a clearer signal than is possible with a single composite RCA video cable or even a S-Video cable. The 27 inch Panasonic in my bedroom is a standard def CRT that I have hooked up to my old PS2 with a component cable. It gives a better picture that way but if I use a game that plays in 480P progressive scan and I turn that feature on I get a scrambled mess on my screen but perfect sound(and that’s just an ED signal, not the HD that the XBOX 360 pumps out). If you’re hooked on the idea of HD gaming, and you can afford it, take back the Toshiba and invest in an HD set. Per Amazon the set you bought goes for around $500, you should be able to find an entry level HD LCD for that price if you scour the deals at places like Tiger Direct and Newegg.

Most tvs have a source or mode selection. With choices like:
“TV”, Cable, DVD etc. Try going through all the sources looking for one called component. I am assuming you meant component cables (red blue and green). A composite cable that you speak of above is only (1) yellow colored jack. That type of jack and cable is not capable of projecting HD images. What is the sound plugged into. The tv or a reciever and steroe set up. If everything is going through a receiver you may have to select the hd input there as i described for the tv. Lastly not all component(red blue and green ) jackes on back of the tv are HD. I have two high end tv’s with multiple component inputs each but only one set is labled fur HD use. The others are stil better than composit but are not set up to take in and display an HD signal

Component video will only give a 480p resolution.
You need HDMI to get 720p/1080p resolution, which is true HD. The 360 cannot support true HD. Only the PS3 can via HDMI.
ignore every answer except Richard C’s. it doesn’t matter if the TV is hd ready or hd capable with an xbox 360. and componet cables will carry 720p signal just fine. you do not have a TV that is able to do high definition. that is what is wrong.
