My laptop but not that well will it through the hd video plays alright on my laptop but not that well will it through the hd tv.

High definition video is very CPU-intensive. RAM intensive, too.
It depends what kind of file type you are using. It should look as good on the HDTV as it does on the computer IF you are connecting the computer to the HDTV with HDMI or VGA cable (my Panasonic plasma has a VGA port).
Quit ALL the applications running on the computer (except that which is needed to play the video). Be sure to have more than 20% available hard drive space on the hard drive running the operating system. It would be best if that hard drive space is contiguous – that is… defrag the hard drive if it has not been done for a while… More RAM and more contiguous hard drive space will help. It will not play back any worse on the HDTV than on your computer – unless you connect with S-Video or other analog method, in which case it will look a lot better on the computer.
