Yes it should be noticable better. At least the newer TVs will allow you to change the aspect ratio. Wide, Normal, 4:3 etc.
Some TV’s will upconvert the incoming SD signal for you.
HDMI cable, which carry video and audio is the best connection followed by Component, (RGB) ,S-video and then composite.
Best audio is optical or digital coax, for 5.1 surround.
L/R will only give you stereo output.

Funny how people perceive things. Since high resolution playback requires a finer pinpoint pixel point, it would seem that a standard resolution video would appear sharper.

By that logic, playing an old black & white movie through a color TV should put color into the old movie, right?

Yes, I’ve actually had ‘professional’ people, who’ve worked in the business for years, think that copying a VHS tape onto Betacam would improve the resolution.

You cannot create what was never there to begin with. Playing a standard res video on a hi-res device will still look like standard res. It should not look any worse, but there is no way it can look any better, either.

Let’s face it, placing a dog turd inside a Rolls Royce is just not going to improve the quality of the dog turd, no matter how much the Rolls Royce is worth.
